Every August, South Africa pauses to honour the strength, resilience, and courage of women who continue to shape families, communities, and the nation at large. Women’s Month is not just a commemoration of history but a celebration of present-day trailblasers, both young and old who are rewriting narratives, breaking barriers, and inspiring generations. It is a time to spotlight voices that echo with determination and journeys that speak of growth, leadership, and the power of believing in oneself. Among these voices is that of Mahlatse Abigail Legora, affectionately known as Abi, whose story is a shining example of what it means to lead with courage, resilience, and purpose.

Abi’s journey is marked by achievements that reflect both academic dedication and leadership excellence. Currently in her third year of studying towards a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Leisure Studies at the University of Venda, she is committed to improving lives by promoting wellness, community participation, and recreational engagement. Beyond her academic pursuit, Abi has demonstrated remarkable leadership as a convener for SASCO and secretary in her Faculty Student Council, roles that not only showcased her organisational skills but also challenged and redefined perceptions of women in leadership.
Through resilience and determination, she has proven her ability to balance academic, personal life, and leadership responsibilities, turning challenges into strengths. Her story stands as a testament to the power of hard work and self-belief, inspiring young women to embrace leadership, rise above doubt, and pursue their dreams with confidence.
