- Call for Nominations to serve on UNIVEN Law Alumni Association
On behalf of the President of the Convocation of the University of Venda, Mr Masa Sylvester Motadi, all interested members of the Convocation of the University of Venda who are also alumni of the School of Law at the University are hereby invited to submit nominations of appropriately qualified Law alumni, for election to the Executive Committee of the UNIVEN Law Alumni Association to be launched on 23 August 2025, in Pretoria, from 14h00 – 17h00. Further communication of the exact venue shall be sent to members before the launch day.
Kindly ensure that the nominations are submitted in accordance with the terms of reference for Alumni Chapters / Associations, in particular paragraph 5.5.2 thereof. The terms of reference and the nomination form are attached to this call. In particular, the following requirements must be met:
- Only alumni members who have completed a degree offered by the University of Venda School of Law qualify to participate in the nomination process (both to nominate, to second the nomination and to be nominated).
- Nominations must be in writing (using the attached nomination form) and must reflect the full names of the proposer / nominator, two Law alumni who second the nomination and the nominee, all of whom must append their signatures to the form.
- No person may sign more than one nomination form, whether as a proposer or seconder.
- A nominee must have five (5) years of verifiable continual post-qualification work experience in the area of the qualification obtained or a related area. In this regard, the nominee’s abridged CV and Profile, providing enough information about the candidate’s work experience to enable the Secretariat to determine the candidate’s eligibility, must be included. The CV / Profile must indicate the degree/s obtained; the date/s upon which such degree/s was / were obtained and an indication of the current position (job) that the candidate occupies.
- The proposer must also provide a written motivation on the nomination form, briefly indicating the reasons why he or she believes that the nominee is the right candidate for election to the Executive Committee of the Law Alumni Association
Duly completed nomination forms must be addressed to the University Registrar, Dr J. Joel Baloyi, at [email protected],[email protected] and [email protected], by no later than 17h00 on Thursday, 21 August 2025.
Elections shall be conducted at the venue using such method and procedure as shall be communicated by the University Registrar in his capacity as Chief Electoral Officer. The following positions shall be available for election: Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Treasurer and an additional four (4) members to be assigned particular portfolios by the Executive Committee.
All participants in the electoral process shall be required to present a valid identification in the form of a South African identity document or driver’s licence, prior to being permitted to enter the venue.
