The workshop was designed to equip frontline staff with a comprehensive understanding of GBVF—its root causes, forms, and the profound impact it has on students, particularly in the context of higher education; enable early intervention by training wardens and security officers to identify warning signs of abuse, respond appropriately, and help foster a safe and inclusive campus environment; provide practical, trauma-informed training on how to handle GBVF cases with sensitivity, confidentiality, and professionalism, ensuring survivor-centred support.
This initiative reflects a growing institutional commitment to safeguard-ing the well-being of all students and staff, especially vulnerable groups.
“As part of the university’s advancing GBVF response strategy, we are pleased to announce a strategic partnership with the Commission for Gender Equali-ty (CGE). A key outcome of this collaboration will be the establishment of a dedicated Gender Desk, which will serve as a central support and referral hub for sursurvivors of GBV,” highlighted the Head of Transformation, Ms Velencia Maupye.
Through this partnership, the university aims to enhance its accountability and ensure that all GBVF responses are rights-based, survivor-
centred, and grounded in national and international best practices. Together with CGE, the institution reaffirms its commitment to creating
a campus culture that prioritises safety, dignity, and respect for all.
